New Mexico Engines
When I visited the Cumbres & Toltec RR at Chama, NM in 1995, I found friendly people and the freedom to roam the yard making photos. Seen here is a Sunday double header going up the mountain.
This helper engine just looked like a fire breathing dragon to me. It is the C&T 489.
Oregon Engines
The Sumpter Valley Railway # 19, a 2-8-2 36 inch gauge engine completed restoration in the spring of 1996 and was returned to the railway that summer for passenger operations near Baker.
The SPS #700 finally gets to make a excursion run and manages only five miles before breaking a valve rod.

The two Golden Spike engines at the National Historic Site at Promontory Point, Utah aren't the engines that were there in 1869 but they are perfect reproductions except for one minor detail. They carry no builder's plates.
